COVID-19

Strong Hearts is working to make urgent health information accessible to protect immigrant communities from COVID-19.

What is COVID-19?

It is a virus that wild animals have had, and in 2020 it leaped to humans. There are many coronaviruses between animals and humans. This virus causes a new disease that can be very serious in some people and can affect the heart, brain, kidneys, or cause inflammation in the lungs or pneumonia.

How does the coronavirus disease spread?

The virus is like invisible cigarette smoke that an infected person breathes out with every breath. If someone is infected and we spend time indoors with them, eventually this smoke will get into our lungs and we can become infected.

How to protect ourselves from Coronavirus?

We need to remember three important things to protect ourselves. First, wearing a mask over our nose and mouth is essential to block the virus and gather others outside because the invisible smoke will blow away. Likewise, keeping the distance helps because the invisible smoke is less dense if we are farther away from the infected person.
